Here are the steps to create an effective SEO strategy

  1. Create a List of Keywords: Keyword research is usually the first step of any legit SEO strategy. Start typing a keyword into Google’s search field, and it will populate a list of suggestions. These usually make great keywords for SEO because they come straight from Google. Plus, longer keywords (known as “long tail keywords”) tend to be less competitive than “short tail” terms. So even though long tails have relatively low search volume levels, they’re much easier to rank for. Once you have 10 keywords jotted down, you’re ready for step #2.
  2. Analyze Google’s First Page: Now it’s time to see who already ranks for those keywords. To do that, just type one of the keywords that you found into Google. Scan the top 10 results and jot down any patterns that you notice. For example, if the SERPs for “SEO Tools” is PACKED with lists of tools, you’d want to note that the first page results are made up mostly of list posts. And you’d probably want to publish a list post on your blog.
  3. Create Something Different or Better: Once you know what’s already out there, it’s time to create something different or better. For example, if you notice that the top 10 results for “SEO Tools” are all list posts, you might want to create a video or infographic instead.
  4. Add a Hook: A hook is a piece of content that’s specifically designed to grab someone’s attention. For example, if you’re creating a blog post about “SEO Tools,” you might start with a shocking statistic or a surprising fact.
  5. Optimize For On-Page SEO: On-page SEO is the process of optimizing individual pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. This includes optimizing the content and HTML source code of a page.
  6. Optimize For Search Intent: Search intent is the reason behind a searcher’s query. It’s the “why” behind the search. By optimizing your content for search intent, you can ensure that your content is relevant to the searcher’s needs.
  7. Focus on Content Design: Content design is the process of creating content that’s visually appealing and easy to read. This includes using headings, bullet points, and images to break up the text.
  8. Build Links to Your Page: Link building is the process of acquiring hyperlinks from other websites to your own. A hyperlink (usually just called a link) is a way for users to navigate between pages on the internet.
  9. Improve and Update Your Content: Finally, it’s important to continually improve and update your content. This includes adding new information, updating old information, and fixing any errors or broken links.
